Mission and Goals

Cooperative education and academic internship programs are expected to have mission and goals that clearly define its purpose in the context of its host institution, describe how the mission will be achieved, how the mission and goals were developed and how they will be evaluated in concert with program effectiveness.

Institutional Relationships

Cooperative education and academic internship programs are expected to demonstrate how the institution has effectively included them as an integral part of the academic program and how it has implemented policies to achieve mission and goals.  Strong institutional relationships help to determine program quality.

Employer Partnerships

Cooperative education and academic internship programs effectively select, prepare, engage and monitor employers so that students achieve learning outcomes consistent with program goals.  In addition, employers are included in periodic reviews of program effectiveness. 

Student Learning Environment

Cooperative education and academic internship programs are expected to provide an environment at employer locations that supports the achievement of student learning outcomes.  In addition, the program demonstrates that a student learning and development approach guides preparation, reflection and monitoring activities.

Assessment and Evaluation

Cooperative education and academic internship programs demonstrate the effective use of student learning assessment process for each work term. In addition, the program has an assessment process that evaluates its overall effectiveness and its impact upon its constituencies.
